Course Content
The course advances the students’ knowledge of education as a scholarly subject by focusing on research about the educational challenges that arise in a globalised society, such as issues relating to interculturality, citizenship, and individual participation in society. Structures and practices that maintain inequality and discrimination are problematised and analysed, at both structural and individual levels.
Learning Outcomes
On completing the course, the student can: • provide an overall account of educational research, focusing on globalisation, sustainability, and societal justice, as well as its historical development • describe and compare important theories and concepts in educational research, focusing on issues of globalisation, sustainability, and societal justice • describe narrative as a scholarly method and discuss methodological considerations • search for and critically interpret information relevant to formulating a pedagogical problem that is pertinent to research focusing on globalisation, sustainability, and societal justice • plan, implement and orally present a small literature study that focuses on narrative research and touches on issues of education in relation to globalisation, sustainability, and societal justice • reason around the possibilities and limitations of educational research in relation to globalisation, sustainability, and societal justice • reflect on the narrative method, considering fundamental scholarly theory and issues of research ethics.
