Course Content
To learn the basic ideas of probability theory and its applications. To learn and understand methods of descriptive statistics and methods of mathematical statistics and to acquire the ability to apply them to practical problems. To become familiar with the use of the computer programme STATISTICA. Descriptive statistics (empirical distributions of continuous and discrete statistical characteristics, measures of central tendency: mode, median, mean, measures of dispersion: range, variance, standard deviation, measures of shape: kurtosis, skewness); random variables (discrete and continuous); discrete distributions; continuous distributions; important examples of distributions (binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, normal distribution); hypothesis testing (basic concepts and examples; basics of regression and correlation (linear correlation and regression as an example).
Learning Outcomes
Knows basic knowledge of descriptive statistics, probability calculus and mathematical statistics. Can apply basic knowledge of descriptive statistics, probability calculus and mathematical statistics to solve practical tasks. Has a need for self-development.
