English for Academic Purposes I

This course is designed to enable first year students to acquire and use basic academic English skills. The course aims at drafting, finding the main ideas of a manuscript, writing a summary, explaining something in other sentences, taking notes and practicing in the areas of discussion. It also teaches basic reading, critical thinking, speaking skills and different types of paragraphs.

This course develops students'                 academic reading and writing skills. A thematic and integrated approach is used to develop four skills. Critical reading and note-taking skills gain importance in this course. Throughout the program, students can address themes of interest. Students read texts on different subjects, listen to texts on related subjects and learn the subject before writing. In this process, academic words also increase. This course aims to teach students how to read and understand written and online resources better. Students can also; Learn to write information clearly, creatively and effectively. Within the classroom, students read and discuss technical and professional articles for more critical thinking
